The European Union agreed this Wednesday on the fifteenth package of sanctions against Russiain one more effort to surround the Kremlin against the invasion of Ukraine. This is a round of measures focused above all on the so-called ‘shadow fleet’, that is, on ships from third countries that transport, for example, military material to support Putin, as well as prohibited goods in the context precisely of the community bloc’s fight against Moscow. Likewise, the list of sanctioned persons and entities is also expanded.
“The package adds more individuals and entities to the already existing sanctions list, and targets entities in Russia and third countries other than Russia that indirectly contribute to Russia’s military and technological improvement through circumvention of restrictions to exports,” added the Hungarian presidency of the Council. The decision has been adopted at ambassadorial level, and is scheduled to come into force next Monday.
On the other hand, the new batch includes measures that “restrict the activity of additional ships from third States operating to contribute or support actions or policies that support Russia’s actions against Ukraine,” the statement concludes. This was one of the aspects that remained to be framed, especially given the support that Russia is receiving from allied countries such as Iran or North Korea.
This decision comes at a phase of the war in which Ukraine is noticing the Russian weight on the territory and is losing strength. Thus, Zelensky demands more military support from his allies and this Wednesday, he has also disgraced Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán that he can contact the former Syrian president, Bashar al Assad, who has moved to Moscow after the takeover of his country. by the rebels and who is another ally of Vladimir Putin.
“It is absolutely clear that to achieve real peace and guaranteed security It requires the determination of the United States, the unity of Europe and the unwavering commitment of all partners to the Purposes and Principles of the Charter of the United Nations,” summarized the Ukrainian president, before once again criticizing the movements that come out almost constantly from Budapest.
In this sense, Zelensky once again appealed for unity among his partners. “No one should promote their own image at the expense of unity; everyone must focus on shared success. Unity in Europe has always been key to achieving it. There can be no discussions about the war that Russia is waging against Ukraine without Ukraine,” he said.
