The Confederation of Businessmen of the Region of Murcia (Croem) brought together this Friday the presidents of the employers' associations of the Valencian Community, Andalusia and the Business Association of Almería in the founding act of the Southeast Alliance, which will seek more support for its claims so that it is the Spanish Confederation of Business Organizations (CEOE) that demands urgent measures from the central Government to set a date for the reform of regional financing, the development of key infrastructures such as the Mediterranean Corridor and the water deficit. The three are today the Achilles heel of three communities that represent 25% of the Spanish GDP and that bring together a million companies, almost a third of the national total.
In this way, José María Albarracín, president of Croem, is hosting a business meeting that meets for the first time at the headquarters of the Murcian employers' association, with the presence of the president of the Region, Fernando López Miras, to mark the route for the future of the three autonomous communities, which produce more than 50% of the total fruits and vegetables in our country and represent more than 25% of what is exported. This future involves solving the three pending basic points: water, infrastructure and regional financing.
The idea is that the Southeast Alliance continues to add members to ensure that the CEOE strongly defends its demands. The Balearic Islands are the community that is closest to joining the team soon.
«A demand must be born today, here, with this alliance, from the Government of Spain, from which we are not going to take a step back, in demanding a national plan, a National Hydrological Plan, a great National Pact for Water, Let's call it what we want, but that is going to be the great reference point of today's meeting,” said Albarracín.
Regarding the meeting, the president of the Andalusian businessmen, Javier González de Lara, highlighted that they are in Murcia this Friday because they consider that they are “important” for Spain as they represent a third of the Spanish population: “more than 15 million men and women ». To this we must add that the Region, the Valencian Community and Andalusia represent a quarter of the national territory, with 2,700 kilometers of coast from Ayamonte to the limits of the Valencian Community, with notable ports such as Algeciras, Valencia and Cartagena, which They cover more than half of national port traffic.
“We are talking about an alliance of three communities that add up to a million companies that have a clear export vocation,” he said, adding that these are innovative and modern firms that want to open the market and need attention, more logistics and more capacity to be able to transfer their products.
«More than 90,000 million euros are invoiced by companies in the three autonomous communities. They represent a third of everything that is invoiced nationally in the area of exports. And they have more than 6.4 million workers,” he summarized.
In this sense, he defended that if they are gathered in Murcia it is because they have “very common” neighborhood relations and this also leads them to agree on concerns.
Regarding the financing model, he emphasized that it is obsolete, outdated and that it does not generate comfort from the point of view of distribution of services. “What we ask and hope for is that there be a great national debate on regional financing, where the territorial importance of the Valencian Community, Murcia and Andalusia can be taken into consideration.”
Regarding the Mediterranean Corridor, he indicated the development deadlines. “Algeciras is the point of origin of Europe, but there is hardly any news regarding routes as important as a double railway corridor in the central Mediterranean, such as the Algeciras-Bobadilla.” “Let's go slow, come on, late.”
Finally, in reference to the water deficit, he stressed the need for a State policy on water issues. “It is putting at risk not only the agri-food sector but also the tourism, logistics and transportation industries.” It is not just about reclaiming water but about highlighting that the three communities know how to optimize its use. “We are not wasteful,” concluded González de Lara, who highlighted the efforts of the regional government for administrative simplification.
