The Emirates Climate Action Council reviewed national efforts to enhance climate ambition as part of the country’s preparations to participate in the Conference of the Parties (COP29), scheduled to be held in the Republic of Azerbaijan at the end of this year.
The Council discussed ways to enhance the country’s climate action locally and globally, in addition to developments in the implementation of national initiatives and plans aimed at achieving climate neutrality by 2050, and advancing efforts to raise environmental awareness in society, with the aim of developing climate-responsible future generations and creating a sustainable economy.
This came during the second meeting of the UAE Climate Action Council for the year 2024, chaired by the Minister of Climate Change and Environment, Dr. Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak.
Dr. Amna bint Abdullah Al-Dahhak said, “Climate change is a reality that has major impacts on us and on all countries of the world, and we are certainly aware of the magnitude of those impacts on many vital sectors, which prompts us to redouble our work in order to accelerate finding and implementing solutions to confront climate change and adapt to it.” During the coming years, as part of our work to reach climate neutrality in the UAE by 2050.”
She added, “Our wise leadership places a great responsibility on us during the current and future periods in order to create a unique Emirati model that seeks to confront climate change, while achieving the best rates of development at the same time. Of course, this will require more cooperation and coordination between all concerned parties in the country and the private sector.” And to all members of society, the Conference of the Parties (COP28) reflected the UAE’s position in global climate action, and we must work to strengthen that position during our participation in the Conference of the Parties (COP29), scheduled to be held in the Republic of Azerbaijan, while moving forward with our local and global projects and initiatives.”
The Emirates Climate Action Council meeting reviewed a number of topics related to the implementation of national climate initiatives, which include the UAE Strategy for Climate Neutrality 2050. The meeting confirmed that the strategy aims at joint work between the various targeted sectors, which requires strengthening the coordination system and compatibility of goals, mechanisms and sectoral plans in order to reach… The common goal of achieving climate neutrality by 2050.
The discussions also included developments in the preparation of a draft federal law regarding reducing climate impacts to contribute to achieving climate neutrality in the UAE, in addition to discussing developments in the development of the “Carbon Credits Trading Platform” aimed at promoting sustainable and innovative financing for green projects.
