The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has confirmed this Friday that it is activating the electoral process for the election of the Assembly, the Delegated Commission and the Presidency of the entity for the 2024-2028 Olympic period. After months of blockade, it has been agreed that the elections for the Presidency and the Delegate Commission will take place on Monday, December 16; while the elections to the General Assembly (which must be prior to those mentioned above) will be on Monday, November 25.
With this calendar that has been agreed upon by the Board of Directors, the federative body hopes that this process “can be completed before the end of 2024.” The person in charge of formally activating the calendar has been the deputy vice president of the RFEF, María Ángeles García Chaves.
The interim situation seemed to become chronic after the disqualification of Pedro Rocha, but the meeting held on October 2 at the Higher Sports Council with the presence of FIFA and UEFA asking that the electoral process be unblocked was key.
The meeting at the CSD with the RFEF, FIFA and UEFA in October was key to unblocking the electoral process
It is worth mentioning that the census was already presented last September. The world and European football regulatory body wanted the RFEF to have someone in the presidency before the end of the year, given that preparations for the 2030 World Cup must continue.
Last March, the RFEF had approved the regulations for the elections, but the process was not carried out because the Sports Administrative Court (TAD) indicated that a Management Commission could only activate this process for the election of the Presidency. but that it does not have powers for the process related to the renewal of the Assembly and the Delegate Commission.
In April, Pedro Rocha was proclaimed president of the RFEF to finish his term in September. Three months later, the TAD disqualified the Extremaduran for exceeding his duties as head of the management company.
It was then that the RFEF called presidential elections again, in which only María Ángeles García Chaves participated as a candidate. However, the TAD upheld an appeal by Miguel Galán and paralyzed the process because the General Assembly of the RFEF had not formally decreed the dismissal of Pedro Rocha.
