The EFE Agency apologizes for “by mistake” tweeting a headline about a helicopter accident in Madrid that did not happen

The president of the EFE Agency, Miguel Ángel Oliver, has apologized for a headline about a helicopter accident in Madrid published by mistake. The public news agency broadcast a message on X reporting about the crash of a helicopter against the Crystal Tower, something that was not true, and deleted it after three minutes.

As explained by EFE, the headline was published exclusively on this social network and was not transmitted to any of the information services for the clients of the agency – a news provider for the Spanish media -, although other newspapers replicated the headline when they saw the message. . elDiario.es has never echoed the headline published by mistake.

The content published in X was from a test text written by a student from Agencia EFE in a training session. “Due to a technical transmission error, that text was dumped among the contents of the editorial staff,” they explained. It was deleted three minutes after its publication and a cancellation notice was subsequently issued on social networks and in all information services.

“We apologize for this error to all citizens, and especially to all our clients,” they added in a statement made public. The EFE Agency “has taken the necessary technical measures to prevent a similar error from occurring again.”
