The United States may limit dollar transactions in Russia, which will become a serious pressure on the country’s economy, economist and financial analyst Nikolai Kulbaka admitted. In a conversation with Lenta.ru, he noted that such a measure is unlikely, as well as limiting the supply of smartphones and other high-tech products.
The US authorities have conceived the introduction of tough measures against Russia in the “invasion of Ukraine.” These include restricting imports of smartphones, components for aircraft and automobiles. These measures will be discussed at a meeting of senior US officials and will be in addition to economic sanctions.

Kulbaka noted that the ban on the supply of the above goods would have an extremely negative effect on the Russian economy, since most of these elements in our country are imported. They are necessary for the production of our own products.
In fact, I think it won’t come to that, and the statement is such a preventive measure.

“But there can be many import restrictions, because a significant part of our markets is somehow connected with goods produced in the United States, although the country is not Russia’s main trading partner. Yes, something can be replaced with Chinese components, something with European ones. Although, if the United States imposes a ban, then Europe will no longer trade with us, ”the economist noted.
If such measures are implemented, according to the analyst, economic growth in Russia may stop.
“So yeah, it’s going to be bad. But still, we ourselves, not the United States, create the main problems for our economy, ”Kulbaka stressed.
The most painful, he said, will not be a ban on the import of products, but a scenario in which the United States will restrict dollar transactions in Russia.
“The dollar is the world currency in which most of all transactions are carried out. If the United States wants to restrict dollar transactions, this will lead to dire consequences for our economy, but, I hope, it will not come to that, ”the analyst concluded.
Earlier, US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Karen Donfried said that the United States is working very closely with the European Union countries on new packages of sanctions against Russia in case of its aggression against Ukraine.
