River Plate tied this Wednesday against Atlético Tucumán 0-0 as a visitor, and remains at the top of Zone A of the 2024 Professional League Cup of Argentine soccer, in a match valid for the fifth date of the tournament.
The team led by Martín Demichelis had a night to forget because they were surpassed in several moments and also due to the situation of the penalty with Esequiel Barco, Miguel Borja and the coach himself.
The thing is that the former Independiente was designated to kick the penalty, which he failed and then it was repeated again, but the coach changed his mind and requested that the Colombian scorer take the kick. The Ship itself fired again, missing again.
Demichelis decided to take him off the field at halftime and the controversy ignited, although Borja later went to console his teammate, when he had previously shown signs of anger for not having the opportunity to execute it. Is there a history? We review them.
What was said: Esequiel and Borja went to look for the ball, Demichelis gave the order for the offensive midfielder to kick and “Hummingbird” reluctantly accepted. For the second execution, “Micho” asks that they change the performer and on the 21st he did not obey, and failed again. At halftime, the coach took the former Independiente off the field.
Already with Demichelis as coach, on March 12, 2013 River beat Godoy Cruz 2-0 at home, with two from Lucas Beltrán. They awarded a penalty to “Millo” and we all assumed that the forward was going to try to take it to get the ball, but it was Esequiel Barco who decided to keep the ball. On that occasion, the former Independiente and Atlanta United scored and River went from winning to scoring.
On April 24, 2022, the River del Muñeco Gallardo received the Dean at the Monumental. There was a penalty for River and the coach asked Julián Álvarez to kick, but Enzo Fernández did not pay attention and took the shot, beating Nicolás Campisi and scoring 1 to 0. Then the game would end 1 to 1, and surely after the match the star riverplatense will have been linked to a punishment from “Muñe”.
