The Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations offered assistance to the residents of Armenia in eliminating the consequences of the flood. This was reported on the department’s Telegram channel.
The ministry offered assistance to Yerevan through the Russian-Armenian Humanitarian Response Center. It is noted that rescuers are ready to eliminate the consequences of floods and carry out emergency restoration work.
The department also added that a tense flood situation has developed in two regions of the Transcaucasian country due to heavy rains. The Debed, Agstev and Tashir rivers overflowed and flooded a number of settlements, and government roads were damaged.
Also earlier, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced its readiness to help eliminate the consequences of floods and mudflows.
The command of the 102nd Russian Military Base was given appropriate instructions to allocate personnel, as well as the necessary equipment
The ministry emphasized that as soon as a request is received from the Armenian authorities, the department will immediately send the forces and means of the Russian Armed Forces to the sites of the natural disaster.
Consequences of floods in Armenia
On May 26, it became known that the Debed River overflowed its banks in the Lori region of the republic. A video showing the consequences of the flood has appeared online. Aerial footage shows that water completely filled the streets and courtyards, as well as the first floors of houses.
In the city of Alaverdi, a gas filling station exploded due to a short circuit. In the region, a bridge was destroyed, a 31-kilometer section of the Vanadzor-Alaverdi road was flooded, several residential buildings were flooded at the Ayrum station, and two crossings were also under water.

In addition, in the north of Armenia, roads and bridges were destroyed, and the disaster claimed the life of one person. It is also known that 232 people were evacuated, 28 of them from the Tufenkian hotel complex, 62 from the city of Tashir, 22 from Alaverdi, 110 from Sanahin station.
The highway between Armenia and Georgia was closed due to flooding
Due to the Debed River overflowing its banks, it was decided to close the route between Armenia and Georgia in both directions.
The Armenian Road Department reported that the road was damaged due to heavy rains. Drivers were urged to use other routes to get to the Georgian border.
On social networks, residents of Armenia published footage showing that the river had flooded residential buildings in the city of Alaverdi near the border. Users also reported large scale disasters.
The Russian Foreign Ministry responded to the emergency in Armenia
The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, said that the country sincerely sympathizes with the people of Armenia due to the flood.
Zakharova noted that Russia wishes recovery to all those affected by the flood. According to her, the Russian-Armenian Center for Humanitarian Response handed over portable motor pumps to the rescue service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Armenia, which are used in search and rescue and emergency recovery work.
In Lori and Tavush regions, there are 50 pieces of equipment previously provided by RACGR, which are involved in eliminating the consequences of the flood.
Zakharova added that the Russian Embassy in Yerevan and the Consulate General in Gyumri are in contact with the Foreign Ministry of Armenia, the leadership of Tavush, Shirak and Lori regions with a view to possible provision of additional assistance and identification of Russian citizens among the victims.
