In the late 1980s and early 1990s, action movies had Sylvester Stallone Already arnold schwarzenegger as two of the most famous figures in Hollywood. The first gained great recognition with the saga “Rocky” (despite the fact that he almost died in one of his installments), while the second was already enjoying enormous popularity for “Terminators.”
Of course, the press soon rivaled both actors, for which it was widely said that one wanted to get better roles than the other. Thus, an old rumor indicated that Arnold almost ended the career of ‘Sly’ a few decades ago.
The lie that almost destroyed Sylvester Stallone
With Schwarzenegger and Stallone going higher and higher in their careers, comparisons were a daily occurrence. However, it was in 1992 when the latter agreed to record a film that came close to ruining his career.
Specifically, we talk about “Stop or my mother shoots!”, a 1992 comedy considered one of the worst films in Hollywood and in Sylvester’s filmography.
What few know is that the leading role was first offered to his aforementioned rival. In fact, Arnold knew from the beginning that the script was bad, but he didn’t want to pass up the opportunity to take a cheap shot at his colleague and devised a clever trick.
“Certain. I read the script. It was very bad. You know, I’ve also done some movies that went down the toilet, right? Which were bad. But this one was really bad. So I went in – this was during our war – and I said ‘I’m going to leak that I have a tremendous interest’. I know how it works in Hollywood,” Schwarzenegger began in 2017 (via SlashFilm).
“Then I would ask for a lot of money. So they would say, ‘Let’s give it to ‘Sly.’ Maybe we can get it cheaper.’ So they told ‘Sly’, ‘Schwarzenegger is interested. Here are the press clippings. He has talked about it. If you want to take it off, it’s available.’ And she accepted it!”confessed the actor.
Thus, a week later, his opponent was already filming the tape and, as Arnold accepted, the project became a total failure.
