The judges of the International Court of Justice in The Hague have ordered Israel to take all necessary actions and take effective measures to ensure, without further delay, the delivery of basic food supplies and necessary humanitarian aid to the Palestinian population of the Strip of Gaza.
The new ordinance issued today the Court of The Hague unanimously orders further “provisional measures” regarding the trial which began on January 11 at the request of South Africa, which accuses Tel Aviv of genocide.
“The catastrophic living conditions of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip have further worsened, particularly given the prolonged and widespread deprivation of food and other basic necessities to which Palestinians in the Gaza Strip have been subjected,” we read in 'order. “Palestinians in Gaza no longer face just the risk of famine, as noted in the January 26, 2024 order, but famine is coming.”
“The provisional measures indicated in the order of January 26, 2024 do not fully address the consequences arising from changes in the situation, thus justifying the modification of these measures,” the judges added, reiterating previous provisions requiring Israel to “adopt all measures in its power to prevent acts of genocide” of Palestinians and improve the humanitarian situation in Gaza.
In particular, Tel Aviv must ensure “the unhindered and large-scale provision of urgently needed basic services and humanitarian assistance, including food, water, electricity, fuel, shelter, clothing, sanitation and medical supplies ”, as well as “increasing the capacity and number of land border crossings and keeping them open for as long as necessary”. The Jewish State, according to the magistrates, should implement the order “without delay and in full collaboration with the United Nations”.
Furthermore, by a vote of 15 judges in favor and 1 against, the Court in The Hague ordered Israel to ensure that its army “does not commit acts” in violation of the United Nations Convention on Genocide, “preventing, through any action , the delivery of urgently needed humanitarian assistance.” The judges then ordered Tel Aviv to submit a report to the Court, within a month, on “all measures taken” to comply with the order.
