López Miras announces that 50% of the cost of overnight stays will be covered during July and August in Cartagena, San Pedro del Pinatar, Los Alcázares and San Javier
The president of the Community, Fernando López Miras, announced this Friday the launch of tourist vouchers that will cover this summer 50 percent of the cost of accommodation for visitors in municipalities of the Mar Menor, with direct aid of up to 250 euros «which will make tourists feel more attracted and have more facilities to visit us”, he said. Said discount, which will be in force during July and August, will be applied for reservations of at least two nights, in the same or in different accommodations in Cartagena, San Pedro del Pinatar, Los Alcázares and San Javier.
For the head of the regional government, this tourist voucher “represents an important help to the sector when it comes to attracting tourists and customers”, and makes the Region “the only autonomous community that launches a tourist voucher in high season”. López Miras announced this measure during the closing of the General Assembly of the Regional Confederation of Business Organizations of Cartagena (Coec).
In addition, the head of the regional Executive recalled that the businessmen of the area themselves had transferred the importance of activating incentive measures for tourist activity this summer, “and the regional government is going to assume them.”
Those interested must obtain the voucher through one of the travel agencies participating in the program, to which they must pay the amount of the reservation with the discount already applied. The beneficiaries of the voucher must be residents of Spain, either inside or outside the Region.
The objective of this initiative is to promote trips with overnight stays in the Mar Menor, as well as the acquisition of tourist packages and services. In addition, it represents support for regional travel agencies, one of the economic sectors most affected by the pandemic.
It is the first time that the Community has launched tourist vouchers for the summer campaign, since they were previously in force in the mid and low season for the entire Region of Murcia, during the periods between November 11 and December 17, 2021 ; and between January 10 and May 31, 2022.
COEC Assembly
In relation to the implementation of measures such as this tourist voucher, López Miras stated that his Executive “works by listening to businessmen first, and evaluating their proposals.” In this sense, he praised “the strength and roots of COEC”, and stated that its role “is very important for the progress of Cartagena, its region, the Region of Murcia and Spain.”
Likewise, he valued that the businessmen of Cartagena and its region “have been able to face the economic consequences of the pandemic with courage, talent and capacity, because judging by the growth and job creation figures, they are overcoming this situation.”
Thus, he recalled that these last two years have represented “the most difficult situation in the last century”, since the pandemic has been joined by “a crisis of scarcity of raw materials, a crisis of rising fuel and energy prices, and runaway inflation that has been aggravated by the invasion of Ukraine.”
“We are facing an unprecedented crisis at the national level, and all the agencies tell us that this crisis is going to get worse,” warned López Miras, who indicated that “in the face of the inaction of the central government, both the regional Executive and the local administrations we must step forward and make decisions, which is what we are doing.
As an example of these decisions, the president pointed to “zero-interest loans worth more than 8 million euros that we have activated from the regional government, so that gas stations and service stations can afford the discount of twenty cents on the fuel price.
