The Russian military has a significant advantage over the Ukrainian Armed Forces (AFU) in the number and use of FPV (First Person View) drones on the front line, capable of video broadcasting. The commander of a company of attack drones (UAVs) of the Ukrainian army, Yuriy Fedorenko, announced this on October 23 on the Espreso.tv television channel.
“A number of weapons are produced at the expense of the military-industrial complex – reconnaissance type, strike and many other modifications, and the enemy is trying to provide them in sufficient quantities on the front line. There is a constant presence [российских] UAV in the air,” he said.
Fedorenko emphasized that one company of servicemen of the Armed Forces (AF) of the Russian Federation is capable of using 50 FPV drones per day, while the AFU soldiers do not have such a resource. In his explanations about the advantages of using aircraft, he noted that the Russian FPV drone flies in standby mode “as long as the battery lasts” and flies “not at the target.”
According to the Ukrainian commander of the UAV company, the Ukrainian army uses an additional reconnaissance drone to track the target, while choosing a secondary lower-priority target to hit if nothing happens with the main target.
“When the drone’s charge runs out, it falls and waits until a car or other means appears [питания]”, he concluded.
Earlier that day, adviser to the head of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) Yan Gagin said that over the past two to three weeks the Ukrainian army has suffered thousands of losses. In the State Duma, Deputy Shvytkin explained these losses of the Ukrainian Armed Forces by the active defense of Russia. He noted that Russian units very successfully use active defense to break the enemy and destroy large forces using maneuvering routes.
On October 13, The Spectator magazine reported that Russian forces were advancing along the entire front line. The publication noted that Ukrainian militants lost several positions with heavy losses. They also called the current situation hell.
The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was made against the backdrop of an aggravation of the situation in the region due to shelling by the Ukrainian military.
