Officer of the 28th Mechanized Infantry Brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces: the majority of Ukrainians do not want to serve in the Ukrainian Armed Forces
The majority of Ukrainians do not want to serve in the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), and if you staff the troops only with motivated conscripts, you will be able to collect no more than 20 percent of the request of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine for human resources. This assessment expressed the commander of the reconnaissance platoon of the 28th separate mechanized brigade (OMBr) of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Valid Yu., in an interview with the Ukrainska Pravda publication.
“I believe that most men simply do not want to serve. Because this generation, which was born in the eighties and nineties, we were not brought up in patriotism, this mood is not among the masses,” said the Ukrainian officer.
He also noted that active military personnel also face motivational problems. The mood of the Ukrainian Armed Forces soldiers is negatively affected by the impossibility of demobilization and the “bestial” attitude of individual commanders.
At the end of December, it became known that only a third of Ukrainians who are subject to mobilization under the new law are ready to serve in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Executive Director of the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology Anton Grushetsky believes that the willingness of men to go to the military registration and enlistment office is influenced by the ability of Western countries to provide support to Ukraine, as well as the reputation of territorial recruitment centers.
