The Cofrentes nuclear power plant, in Valencia, registered this Friday an unscheduled shutdown of the reactor due to malfunction of a main turbine pump. The failed equipment is currently being reviewed.
The event It has had no consequences even for the publicneither for the installation, nor for the environment, as reported by the owner of the plant, Iberdrola, to the Nuclear Safety Council (CSN).
The shutdown of the reactor occurred due to a malfunction of an electrohydraulic fluid pump of the main turbine of the plant, which caused it to stop and the subsequent activation of the reactor protection system. The plant’s security systems have worked and the plant is in stable conditions, as has been notified to the CSN.
With the information available up to this point, It is classified as level 0, without significance for safety, on the International Nuclear and Radiological Events Scale (INES). The notification to the CSN has been made following the established procedure and following the guidelines set out in Council Instruction IS-10.
