The international trend continues and takes the example of countries referring to this discipline such as France, Austria and Japan
After the Olympic gold of Alberto Ginés in Tokyo 2020 and the double Olympic diploma of Cacereño and Lesly Romero, the Spanish Federation of Mountain Sports and Escalada (FEDME) restructure its organization to reach the top in the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
The change, explains Fedme, responds to the objective of enhancing the performance of athletes and follows the international trends marked by other countries referring to this sport, such as France, Austria and Japan. “We enter a new phase, where talent, experience and planning will be the keys to achieve maximum performance,” says the agency in a statement.
Under the coordination of the Vice President of the Federation, Andrea Cartas, and Lluís Giner, technical director, the new structure appoints specific selectors for each competitive modality: difficulty, block and speed. The current absolute and youth coach, David Macià – artis of the sports successes of recent years – will be the new coordinator of the High Performance Center (CAR) of Sant Cugat for the preparation of elite athletes and the future stars of the climbing in Spain. From this position, Macià will supervise the training of the climbers and the coordination of the technical part of the organization.
Meanwhile, Iván Terricabras will be the difficulty climbing coach, Rebeca Pérez will be the block and mateusz coach Miroslaw will be the speed climbing coach. There will also be a new youth coach, Andrés Ramos, while Vicent Esteller will remain at the head of the Paralympic climbing selection.
“This change does not involve the departure of any technician, but a strategic redesign that seeks to provide more support to key figures such as the Olympic champion Alberto Ginés,” says the Federation.
