The Civil Guard detained Luis Rubiales this Wednesday morning at the Adolfo Suárez airport in Madrid as part of Operation Brody, although he was released shortly after, according to sources close to the investigation. The former president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), who landed at Terminal 1 of Barajas from the Dominican Republic, where he was on a business trip, was taken to the offices that the Civil Guard has in T4. The agents have taken his fingerprints, read his rights in front of his lawyers and taken a statement, although Rubiales has remained silent, according to investigation sources. The former head of Spanish football, who is being investigated for alleged business corruption and unfair administration, has been released pending the court's summons. The Civil Guard has informed the court of the arrest and release. Rubiales will soon have to testify before Judge Delia Rodríguez, head of the Court of First Instance and Instruction number four of Majadahonda (Madrid).
The former president of the RFEF could not be arrested on March 22 within the framework of Operation Brody like other federation leaders because he was in Punta Cana. There, on Monday, agents from the Central Operational Unit (UCO) of the Civil Guard registered his residence and a tablet and a mobile phone were seized.
After landing this Wednesday in Madrid, a UCO van was waiting for Rubiales at the foot of the runway, a vehicle into which the former federation president boarded accompanied by the agents, as could be seen in an image broadcast on La Sexta. Meanwhile, at the exit door of Terminal 1, the National Police has established a security cordon in order to prevent the more than 50 media present there from being able to approach it.
