The Civil Guard arrested this Wednesday in Tarragona the two top officials of ‘Los Tiguerones’, a criminal organization considered terrorist by the authorities of Ecuador, in an operation together with the Police of the American country that has allowed their location while they used documentation false to hide from the action of justice.
The operation, led by the Information Service together with intervention units of the Armed Institute, has allowed the arrest of William Joffre AB, alias ‘Commander Willy’, and has been carried out under the direction of the Central Court of Instruction number 1 and the Prosecutor’s Office of the National Court, as reported by the Civil Guard.
The organization is credited with the murder of Ecuadorian prosecutor César Suárez, who was investigating the assault on a television station by an armed commando and who also followed cases related to drug trafficking, terrorism and organized crime.
‘Comandante Willy’ is considered the leader of ‘Los Tiguerones’, an organization declared terrorist in Ecuador, and he was subject to an International Arrest Warrant issued by the Ecuadorian judicial authorities as allegedly responsible for a crime of terrorism.
Likewise, the person considered number two of said organization, alias ‘Ronco’ and brother of the previous one, has also been arrested in Spain, for whom another International Arrest Warrant was recorded.
The two were arrested in Segur de Calafell, in the province of Tarragona. The Ecuadorian Police has also reported on the relevance of these two “high-value objectives” in a statement.
The leader had lived in Catalonia for years
The investigation began after obtaining information indicating that ‘Commander Willy’ had been living in Catalonia for years, “under the protection provided by the use of false documentation and evading justice, while continuing to coordinate and directing the carrying out of terrorist activities by his organization in Ecuador,” according to the Civil Guard.
The Government of Ecuador classified ‘Los Tiguerones’ as a terrorist organization for its ability to plan and execute indiscriminate acts of violence against the civilian population, including the alleged planting of several car bombs in Ecuador, which have caused numerous fatalities.
Open investigations indicate that this organization would be behind the order for hooded men to attack the Ecuadorian media outlet TC Televisión, while a live news program was being broadcast. The intention was for the Government to relent in police pressure on the country’s criminal gangs classified as terrorists.
Furthermore, ‘Los Tiguerones’ are linked to the murder of the Ecuadorian prosecutor in charge of investigating the assault on the aforementioned television network, who died riddled with several gunshots days after the beginning of the investigation into terrorism crimes in Ecuador.
