There are many who claim that electric cars are, in general, much more expensive to buy than their counterparts with a thermal engine or even hybrid. And they are right, since the ‘zero emissions’ models today continue to have higher access than the other alternatives mentioned. Despite this, the gap between them is increasingly lower and there are already many who predict an equalization sooner rather than later.
But, When will this price equality occur? At the moment there are many who have predicted this for the coming years, although for now it remains a mystery. Now this issue has come to the fore again after Leapmotor CEO, Tianshu Xinhas conducted an interview with the German media Automobilwochewhere he has spoken precisely about this long-awaited comparison.
Leapmotor CEO predicts equality very soon
Specifically, the manager has stated that the prices between hybrid and electric cars will be the same in the next “two or three years” and to launch this forecast he has compared Europe with the current situation in China: “In China there is no longer a price difference between models with electrified propulsion and purely electric cars. Personally, I believe that we will achieve this price equality in Europe in two or three years.”
This price comparison will benefit the users themselves, not because of the low price itself, but rather because they will have more freedom of choice, thus being able to choose the car that best suits them for features or other points, rather than for the mere fact whether it is more expensive or cheaper. This could be a reality very soon.
As is well known, Leapmotor has belonged to the Stellantis automotive group for a few months, as it bought 20 percent of the eastern company. This acquisition was carried out with the purpose of accessing the electric car technology that the Chinese company already has, thus facilitating the process for the automotive conglomerate in many points.
However, the CEO foresees many other ties beyond the alliance on electric cars: “There are many synergies between both partners. And there are still many possibilities that we will analyze later.” With this, he hopes that Leapmotor can establish itself in Europe as ‘one more’: “We are different from many other brands from China that come to Europe. We are very fast and we have a large network of distributors and services from day one. Speed and service: this is how we will be successful.”
According to Xin, the company has a very differentiated positioning from other European companies: “We develop around 60% of the total added value of our models ourselves; This also includes the entire electronic architecture, the software-defined vehicle and all battery elements except the cells themselves. This means that we have all the important elements of the drive in our hands.”
Leapmotor currently markets the small T03 and the C10 in Spain, both with 100% electric mechanics. Later, the company also hopes to land two other SUVs in our market, the B10 and the C16.
