The current vehicle market is in continuous oscillation. This fact increases even more when it comes to presenting figures on electric cars. So much so that some brands have been forced to backtrack on their plans for complete electrification of their respective ranges. Most of them, in fact, planned greater integration of ‘zero emissions’ models by 2030even going as far as not offering combustion alternatives by then.
Despite the fact that these are changing times and of notable risk in this regard, brands like KIA are not backing down and continue with their sales plans facing the end of this decade or the beginning of the next. Specifically, the Korean firm hopes to have an extensive catalog of electric models by then and that this generous offer will impact a significant number of sales.
KIA will not modify its medium and long-term objectives
With all this, the president and CEO of KIA Asia Pacific, Kevin Ahnhas confirmed all this in a recent speech during an event held in Taipei and which has been published by Reuters. During this meeting with other directors and managers of the company, it was decided to show the future of the brand in terms of electric cars, especially.
“Especially this year, the market is changing very quickly and there are many uncertainties. But our long-term goal is that In 2030 there will be 1.6 million sales of electric vehicles. Along the way there will be some chasms, some difficulties, some volumes will decrease due to market conditions and government policies, but our goal will continue to be that,” Ahn said in his speech during the aforementioned event held in Taipei.
On the other hand, in his speech, the manager refused to comment on the impact that the adoption of the hated tariffs is having and will have in the future in terms of obstacles to the international free market. Let us remember that the European Union imposes an import tariff on Chinese electric cars of up to 45%, in the worst case, while the United States does the same, even exceeding 100%.
“The United States recently concluded its presidential elections and there are great changes and expectations in this regard. That is why it is too early to talk about these types of issues,” said Ahn. He added that KIA hopes to be able to assemble some electric vehicles at its Georgia plant within a few months.
Let us remember that the future of the Korean company is entirely hopeful in terms of launching electric cars. Just a few weeks ago they began sales in Spain of the KIA EV3, the electric SUV that hopes to break all the molds. Likewise, in the coming years they will launch alternatives such as the EV4 or EV5, but also a model positioned as access to the ‘zero emissions’ range, named EV2 and that will have a lot to do with the already known Hyundai Inster.
