The pickets puncture wheels and break truck windows in Cartagena, close the Molina industrial estate and protest in Murcia
Yesterday, the entrance to the Valle de Escombreras became the epicenter of the harshest and most forceful protests of the pickets of the carriers’ strike. Not even the intense rain that fell after two in the afternoon was enough to stop the blockade of heavy vehicles from entering this energy pole to load gas, fuel and cereals. The shortage of supplies was even more noticeable in the service stations of the Region, although it was also perceived by companies in the industrial, livestock and construction sectors, whose raw materials necessary to produce enter through the Port of Cartagena.
Gas stations were the main affected. The tankers that supply them with fuel could not load, for the third consecutive day, in Exolum, former CLH, the distribution center of the Region and part of Alicante and Albacete. This caused an increase in cases of lack of some fuels at certain service stations, despite the arrival of diesel and gasoline from Alicante and Valencia.
The more than 70 strikers who gathered at the entrance to Escombreras only allowed entry to the minimum services that had been agreed upon and to the trucks escorted by the Civil Guard at specific times of the day. Specifically, around ten o’clock in the morning, a convoy with 52 vehicles entered Escombreras amid shouts, whistles and threats from the carriers.
Two drivers confronted the strikers and they rebuked them and hit the cabins of their vehicles.
As the morning progressed, the tension increased. Five liquefied gas tankers tried to access the industrial estate around 12 noon, but the pickets prevented them by cutting off the road. It was then that the most tense moments of the day were experienced. Two drivers confronted the demonstrators and they rebuked them, insulted them and hit the cabs of the trucks. They even threw stones at the vehicles and punctured tires. Thanks to the intervention of several civil guards, the confrontation did not go further.
From that moment on, the pickets reached an agreement with the Benemérita agents to inform all the drivers and that only those who explicitly requested it would pass. Most chose to turn around, but the rest passed by booing. The midday and afternoon passed without incident, unlike in the industrial estate of Cabezo Beaza, also in Cartagena, where the demonstrators came to puncture tires and break windows. They also prevented the passage of trucks. They threaten to maintain the blockade indefinitely.
Protest in the capital
They were also in different industrial areas of the Region, as well as at the accesses to logistics bases and entities in the sector, especially in the Molina de Segura industrial estates, until causing the collapse of traffic at times. A caravan with some thirty trucks and heads of large tonnage vehicles once again toured the streets of the city of Murcia, to stage their protest against the situation they are suffering.
The customs facilities of the Murcia Chamber of Commerce, in the San Ginés industrial estate, were one of the places that suffered blockades by the strikers, which altered the normal rhythm of work by preventing the entry and exit of vehicles. They also acted at the entrance of the access roundabout to the Integrated Transport Center, where the Froet sector employers’ association is based, where they remained for more than an hour and a half. In this way, they prevented them from reaching the gas station that the transport federation has.
For his part, the Government delegate in the Region of Murcia, José Vélez, thanked the work of the Civil Guard, and highlighted the “good attitude” of the protesters, to whom he showed his “respect”, aside from “small problems”, punctual.
6% less vehicle entries in Mercamurcia, and without shellfish from Galicia
Mercamurcia, the large platform for the distribution of fresh products, has not suffered pressure from the carriers’ pickets for the time being, although this has not prevented a 6% decrease due to truck blockades at other points. at the driveway. A minor adjustment that allows us to conclude that they have not been very affected. In addition, as recognized by the entity’s management, in the previous week there was an increase in the movement of goods to stockpile, around 15% more to avoid the incidence of unemployment. The head of the commercial and communication area of Mercamurcia, Nuria Pérez, acknowledges, however, that “what did not enter yesterday was seafood and fresh fish from Galicia” due to the blockade at origin.
For his part, the director of the Association of Supermarkets of the Region of Murcia (Asumur), Javier Ruano, affirms that “there has been some specific incident, due to some delay in the first hour, but without further ado”.
