More and more expensive cars
In Italy fewer and fewer cars are sold but their value is growing more and more. To the point that in 2023 all records were shattered as the car market increased in value compared to 2022 (+22.3%), reaching almost 46 billion euros. Clear proof of the fact that new cars are increasingly more expensive.
This is the data – almost incredible in many ways – that emerges from the exclusive analysis of the Fleet & Mobility Study Center, which has been ongoing since 2006, elaborated on the basis of official registration data provided by DataForce and carried out thanks to the support of Evo Italia.
Never such a high expense
In fact, if we look at the numbers we discover that last year Italians spent 46 billion against 37.6 billion euros in 2022, to register 1.6 million cars against 1.3 million in 2022. Not even in 2007, golden year for sales which reached almost 2.5 million cars, spending reached current values, but “stopped” at 45 billion…
But not only that: according to the research, we discover that the average net value of cars has reached 28,800 euros, +2.4% compared to 28,100 last year. Before Covid the average sales value was 21,000 euros.
The strategy
“The CAGR (year-on-year increase in net worth) from 2019 to 2023 was 8.3%, where in the six years before Covid it had been 2.5%. The manufacturers have increased the net values and now – comments Pier Luigi del Viscovo – to lighten the price of the cars they are asking for incentives financed with taxpayers’ money”.
