The Cantabria government formalized on December 27, 2024 the purchase of the headquarters of the newspaper alert for 4.5 million euros to transfer the regional printing press, workshops and emergency services there. The acquisition of the 6,000 -square -meter building, owned by the Díaz Porras family, was managed in just 16 days, from the 6th that the property was valued, until November 22, the date on which the acquisition was authorized .

The purchase of the facilities, located on the Avenida on May First of Santander, was carried out by the administrative procedure of ‘direct onerous award’, an exception to avoid the public tender in certain cases such as the singularity of the building, the special suitability, real estate market conditions or the urgency of acquiring it for unpredictable events.

Among the arguments to opt for the purchase of the alert building, the executive chaired Pass the night on the street. “This will allow proper custody and care of them,” justifies the memory of the Ministry of Presidency.

It is also valued that from the alert building there is “an agile access” to the severe airport Ballesteros where the rescue helicopter of the Government of Cantabria is located. The report of the Minister of Economy that approves the operation concludes that “it is difficult to find for sale this type of versatile buildings” and that “there are no buildings of these characteristics in the area or such large real estate under construction.” In fact, according to the information provided for the signing of the sale before a notary, no other options were estimated.

The acquisition of the building has developed with extraordinary diligence. The assessment report of the maintenance section and mobile park of the Ministry of Presidency, issued on November 6, set the amount at 4,988,725 euros. In a later negotiation, the purchase was closed in the 4.5 million euros that the building has finally cost and has already charged its owner.

On November 15, the Editor of the Cancre newspaper, SA accepted the economic offer for the building and began to look for an office to move the writing. That same day the justification memory of the Ministry of Presidency and the Legal Advisory Report were presented. Three days later, the Department of Economy led by Luis Ángel Agüeros (PP) received the request to buy alert from the Ministry of Presidency. Only four days later, on November 22, the counselor approved the acquisition.

On December 5, the board of directors of Canpre, SA approved the sale that was definitively formalized on December 27. The notary operation was signed by the current CEO of Canpre, SA, María Dolores Trueba, wife of Ciriaco Díaz Porras, owner along with other relatives of the editorial head.

The building came into operation in 1992 and has 6,000 square meters distributed on three floors, one of them with 1,352 square meters of garage. At the level of streets are the rotary, workshops, distribution chain, the loading area of ​​the distribution vans, the writing, offices and offices. The presidency area and an auditorium are on the last floor. The purchase includes the mechanical elevator of vehicles and the transformation center of the building.

Media operation

Although the operation has not been officially announced by the Government of Cantabria, when it transpired interest in the purchase of this building on the outskirts of Santander, sources from the Executive of Buruaga acknowledged that the objective was to install the regional printing press in the facilities, highlighting the “savings” that would mean about the current rental.

However, the sale has an important media and political draft given the historical character of a header that came to erect in one of the informative struts of the extinct press chain of the movement during the dictatorship and had years of intense political link with the party with the party Popular, intervening in his favor even in full electoral campaign during a controversial day of reflection that ended in court.

The Government of Cantabria includes this real estate operation in others in which it is currently immersed, rescuing with public money to different institutions immersed in serious economic and viability problems, such as the purchase of the central building of the Chamber of Commerce, where it plans to transfer the Ministry of Economy, a movement that will cost the Cantabrians five million euros and that already has the approval of the Cameral Governing Bodies on the future of the property located in several plants of the Porticada Plaza de Santander.
