The data for Friday 14 January. The positivity rate rises to 16.4% with 1,132,309 swabs. New peak of victims of this wave: never so many deaths since April 27, 2021. Hospitalizations: +371. Intensive care: +11
I am 186.253
the new cases of Covid in Italy (yesterday there were 184,615, here the bulletin). It goes up like this at least 8,356,514
the number of people who have contracted the SARS-CoV-2 virus (including recovered and died) since the outbreak began. THE deaths today I am 360
(yesterday there were 316), for a total of 140,548 victims from February 2020.
People recovered or discharged they are altogether 5,817,138 And 125.199 those that have become negative in the last 24 hours (yesterday 82,803). The positive current – the subjects who have the virus – turn out to be in all 2,398,828, equal to +75.310 compared to yesterday (+101.458 the day before).
The swabs and the scenario
THE total swabs (molecular and antigenic) were 1,132,309, or 48,870 less than yesterday when there were 1,181,179. While the rate of positivity 16.4% (the approximation of 16.44%); yesterday it was 15.6%.
The number of infections in 24 hours is almost stable compared to yesterday, about 1,600 more. Although we note a slowdown in the growth of the curve (the weekly peak was on Tuesday) – which still grows, but less – the trend remains up (slowed down). With the Omicron variant which as of January 3 was found in 81% of positives – with a range between 33% and 100% at the regional level – and the Delta in 19%. A comparison with last Friday 7 January – the same day of the week – is impossible because the day after the Epiphany the data of the new infections were conditioned (and reduced) by the holiday.
The victims
The death toll increases: there are 360 in the bulletin. This is the new peak of this fourth wave, after yesterday’s (316 dead) and Wednesday’s (313). To see a similar figure, we need to go back to April 27, 2021 (at that time there were 372). The deaths are known to involve people who became infected weeks earlier, when the surge occurred.
One year ago
A year ago, on January 14, 2021, the number of daily victims in our country was very different: compared to 17,246 new cases, that day there were 522 deaths.
At that time, in the Covid wards there were 23,110 hospitalized – now 18,000, despite the recent surge in infected – and in intensive care there were 2,557 patients – now fewer.
The health system
The hospitalizations in every area are increasing. The beds occupied in ordinary Covid wards I am +371 (yesterday +339), for a total of 18,019 hospitalized. The beds occupied in intensive care (TI) are +11 (yesterday -1) – this is the balance between the people who left and those who entered ICU -, bringing the total of the most seriously ill patients to 1,679, with 136 admissions to resuscitation (yesterday 156).
