Yablonska Street is named after Tatiana Yablonska, the great Ukrainian painter who died in 2005, a symbol of Soviet cultural power. It was the main street of Bucha, a town 30 minutes from kyiv, which has been reduced to rubble after the passage of Russian troops. Along its more than three kilometers in length, all the horrors imagined beyond the war were experienced: executions, multiple rapes, looting, mass graves. More than 20 civilian bodies waited for weeks in the middle of the asphalt of this avenue, renamed after this horror as the “avenue of corpses”. These are the living faces of some of those victims. And the stories of those who mourn their deaths.
