The president’s chief of staff appoints Lula’s ‘number two’ as Special Government Transition Position
After several days of silence, the outgoing president of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro, begins to take steps in the transition of the Government after his rival, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, beat him at the polls last Sunday. He summoned Geraldo Alckmin, Lula’s elected vice president, to a meeting and promised him cooperation between the outgoing and incoming administrations. But he did not stop there.
The president’s chief of staff, Ciro Nogueira, appointed this Friday the ‘number two’ of the leftist leader as Special Government Transition Position, thus beginning a process that will formally conclude on January 1 with the transfer of the presidential sash in the South American giant.
In recent days, Nogueira assumed the coordination of this process, which began yesterday morning with the publication of the appointment of the elected vice president, Geraldo Alckmin, in the Official Gazette of the Union. “We are going to work on the transition for a better future for all,” Lula posted on Twitter.
Meanwhile, Brazil’s highways today were practically free of blockades by truckers protesting Lula’s victory. According to the Police, there are still fifteen partial closures.
