Modern scientific work shows that abstinence has virtually no effect on sports performance, said fitness trainer Egor Khodyrev and sports doctor Pavel Davydov. On the influence of sex on competitions they we talked with the publication Tinkoff Magazine.
According to experts, some athletes abstain from intimacy before competitions because they believe that sex reduces testosterone levels and negatively affects athletic performance. However, the results of a 2019 study refuted this assumption and showed that, in fact, the very next day after intimacy, sex with orgasm had no effect on reaction speed, jump height, or the number of push-ups that athletes could do.
Experts also drew attention to another study, which showed that ordinary sexual activity a day before training, on the contrary, improves athletic performance – normalizes blood pressure, helps to relax and gives positive emotions.
Experts have clarified that, under certain conditions, sex can actually negatively affect athletic performance. This occurs when a person goes to bed very late after intimacy or does not sleep at all, drinks alcohol or has sex less than two hours before competition or training.
