On the night of this Monday, November 11, Madrid has once again become the city chosen by TheFork for the third consecutive year to celebrate TheFork Awardsthe third edition of awards where the reservation platform seeks to value the opinion of its users in reference to the experience they live in the different restaurants.
The Gran Teatro Caixabank Príncipe Pío has been the space chosen by the company to reveal the users’ favorite restaurant in this third edition.
The Madrid-based Bascoat has been the restaurant awarded the People’s Choice award thanks to the votes of users of the reservation platform, establishing itself as the best gastronomic opening of the year 2023. Bascoat has been chosen from a total of 36 nominees, selected by a jury made up of more than 50 Spanish chefs with Michelin stars.
Nagore Irazuegi and Rodrigo García’s restaurant
Located at number 33 of Madrid’s Paseo de La Habana, Bascoat was born by Nagore Irazuegi and Rodrigo García with the aim of highlight the origins of the cuisine of the Basque Country, reinterpreting its flavors and nuances in a traditional but modern menu.
The restaurant, which has become the favorite of TheFork users on this occasion, has been voted by some of the members of the jury as Mario Sandoval (Coke), Paulo Airaudo (Amelia By Paulo Airaudo), Miguel Cano (Cloudy), Ignacio Solana (Solana Restaurant) or Javi Sanz and Juan Sauquillo (Oba).
The 10 best openings of the year
In addition to Bascoat, which has managed to place itself as the best-rated opening of the year, TheFork Awards has revealed which are the rest of the restaurants that complete the Top 10 of the best-rated openings of the year.
Madrid, Valencia, Barcelona and Malaga These are the cities where the best restaurants of the year are located, according to TheFork. These are in alphabetical order:
- love mein Barcelona, selected by Raul Balam.
- Blue Rooftopalso located in Barcelona and chosen by Jeroni Castell.
- Bolboretain Madrid, nominated by Diego Guerrero.
- Financial Club, also in the capital, honored by Toño Pérez;
- Pabuin Madrid, the favorite for Dabiz Muñoz, Ramón Freixa and Miguel Carretero.
- Palodulocated in Málaga and recognized by Juan Carlos García, Paco Morales and José Carlos García.
- Alejandro Plateroin Valencia, highlighted by chef María José Martínez.
- Tresdein Madrid and chosen by Hugo Muñoz and Javi Estévez.
- XeiXain Barcelona, favorite option for Carito Lourenço.
Regarding the methodology used for these awards, TheFork explains that “the 36 restaurants selected this year have been chosen by an exceptional jurymade up of more than 50 chefs awarded with Michelin stars, such as Paco Morales (3), Elena Arzak (3), Dabiz Muñoz (3), Jesús Sánchez (3), Andoni Luis Aduriz (2), Mario Sandoval ( 2), Diego Guerrero (2), Vicky Sevilla (1) or Begoña Rodrigo (1), among many others. For their part, the finalists and the restaurant recognized with the People’s Choice Award have been chosen with the votes of TheFork userswho have also chosen their ten favorite openings throughout Spain”.
A dinner prepared by TheFork ambassadors
Last September, TheFork presented its ambassador program, these being professionals in the sector, each of them in their own cooking style, who endorse the relationship between the reservation app and haute cuisine.
Javi Estevezchef at La Tasquería in Madrid, Sara Vallschef at XeiXa in Barcelona, Juan Carlos García de Vandelvira in Baeza and Carito Lourençofrom Fierro in Valencia, are the first ambassadors of the brand and those in charge of preparing a dinner worthy of TheFork Awards.
