Argentina and Italy will play the Finalissima at Wembley, a match in which the Copa América champion faces the European Championship champion.
The last time this competition was held was in 1993, although at that time it was called Artemio Franchi Cup.
France beat Uruguay 2-0 in the first edition in a match that was played at the Parque de los Principes on August 21. The goals were converted by Dominique Rocheteau and José Touré, Platini was the great figure of the French team, while Uruguay had Enzo Francescoli.
A much remembered and celebrated game. The match was played in Mar del Plata and meant the return of Diego Maradona after spending some time away from the National Team. The visitors started out winning by a goal against Néstor Craviotto, but Claudio Caniggia was in charge of leveling the score. On penalties the hero, just as he had been years before in the 1990 World Cup, was Sergio Goycoechea. Argentina won 2-1 in the definition from the penalty spot and stayed with this edition that was not repeated.
