Civil Guard agents have arrested at dawn the author of the attack on the Santo Espíritu del Monte monastery, located in the Valencian town of Giletwhere this Saturday he entered shouting “I am Jesus Christ” and violently attacked several religious, one of them remains hospitalized in very serious condition.
Although this past Saturday the death of this religious had been reported, Benemérita sources confirm that he is still alive but that his health condition is critical. The aggressor used a cane, a crosier and even a glass bottle to hit the friars.
For his part, the provincial of the Franciscans of the Immaculate Conception, Fray Joaquín Zurera Ribó, OFM, published a statement in which he recounted the event and explained that a person had entered the convent and had been attacking the religious who were in their rooms.
From the Emergency Information and Coordination Center (CICU) they detailed that around 10:00 a.m. on Saturday the notice was received to assist several friars injured in the Holy Spirit of Gilet Monasteryso different health resources were mobilized to the place.
Specifically, a SAMU transported a 76-year-old man due to head trauma to the Clinical Hospital; while SVB units have transferred three others injured due to trauma or bruises to the Sagunto hospital. These are three men aged 57, 66 and 95 years old.
The religious institution condemns this aggression and joins the suffering of the brothers, “with the injuries in the body and the pain in the soul for what they experienced, which, without a doubt, leaves a deep mark on people.”
“We also ask for the aggressor to be aware of the damage and be able to rectify a problem.” behavior not at all typical of the human condition. This event is also asking all of us brothers to be more attentive to prevent people from entering our fraternities who could cause damage of any kind, and thus know how to take care of each other.”
