Hidetaka Miyazaki, the director of Elden Ring, as well as the best-known name of FromSoftware, declared in an interview with PC Gamer that FromSoftware expects its players to proceed unaided, i.e. blindly: “Naturally players will consult guides, and on the web you will find a lot of information shared by communities to access secrets and winning strategies.”
Despite this awareness “we don’t do or plan anything with this prerequisite. If nothing else, we try to satisfy the player who goes completely blind and wants to proceed organically.”
Difficult but accessible
Miyazaki’s statement has a double meaning. On the one hand it goes to to reward the most motivated players of FromSoftware’s titleson the other hand, it stigmatizes a very widespread trend in past years of inserting indecipherable elements into games to sell official guides.
It must also be said that difficulty is not exalted at all costs and that FromSoftware would like to do even more to make its games accessible to a wider audience: “If someone who plays without help doesn’t succeed, then there is room for some improvements on our part e in the future we would like to try to include these players more.“
Having said that, don’t worry, because the Elden Ring expansion, Shadow of the Erdtree, will not be forgiving and FromSoftware is counting that if you have played the base title enough you will be able to deal with it.
For the rest we remind you that Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree will be available starting June 21, 2024 on PC, Xbox Series X/S, PS5, PS4 and Xbox One. Read our test to find out more.
