The key is that it is a linear third-person single player title that you only play once.
The Callisto Protocol is a highly anticipated title as it has an atmosphere and brilliant gameplay that is very reminiscent of Dead Space. There are already those who are fantasizing that the title of Striking Distance Studios Arrive at launch on Xbox Game Passbut the title’s technology director has come out to talk about the studio’s preferences.
It is economically difficult to make The Callisto Protocol work within those servicesMark James, CTO of Striking Distance StudiosMark James has pointed out in an interview with TrueAchievementsthat he does not trust that the arrival of The Callisto Protocol to Xbox Game Pass will be entirely profitable because it is a title “linear single player“. Anyway, it ensures that the team “thinks about it”but it’s not the right place for a single-player game from an independent studio to thrive financially.
The CTO goes on to state that it is not profitable: “I’m just saying that as a financial model, it is a difficult one to make work as an independent study. It’s really hard to make a third person linear game work within those services. I’m not saying never; it is financially difficult to make it work“, maintains the manager who does not rule out his arrival either.
James expands on the information and points out what kind of games does he think are more suitable for Game Pass: “Play once on The Callisto Protocol. I think those services are meant for repetitive multiplayer and open world games. I think games like that survive well on that service.”
The Callisto Protocol will hit the market next December 2 to PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. The creatures of the horror title will be able to have a behavior similar to that seen in Alien Isolation with the Xenomorphbut if you still need to terrify yourself more, you can do it with the gameplay shown at Gamescom 2022.
