Tonight Zaragoza hosted the delivery of the third edition of the awards given by the Aragon Energy Cluster (Clenar), a ceremony attended by more than 260 professionals from the sector. This year’s winners were PLATA – Teruel Airport (in the Sustainability and Environment category); Logistics Group Careers (Sustainable Mobility); Chemik (Renewable Energy); Endef (Energy Communication); Hiberus (Decarbonization); the Institute of Nanoscience and Materials of Aragon (INMA) and the Technological Institute of Aragon (ITA), which have shared ex aequo the Innovation award. Zoilo Ríos Group has received the award for business career.
The awards were presented during the third edition of the Energy Night, an event that was sponsored by CIP (Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners), Galp and Ibercaja, as well as the collaboration of Atalaya Generación, Carreras Grupo Logístico, Chemik , Forestalia, Levitec, Kalfrisa, Texla Renovables and Grupo Zoilo Ríos. Among others, the event included Sea Cowboyvice president of the Government of Aragon, Natalia Chuecamayor of Zaragoza, and Pedro Machinpresident of the Aragon Energy Cluster.
Event 0 emissions
The III Energy Night has once again become, for the second consecutive year, a ‘0 emissions’ event, since Clenar will offset the carbon footprint that has been generated and whose measurement has been evaluated by the Aragonese company Ibersyd. The carbon footprint is an environmental indicator that reflects the amount of greenhouse gases (GHG), expressed as CO2 equivalent, which is issued directly or indirectly as a consequence of a specific activity.
Clenar Awards 2024
The Aragon Energy Cluster (Clenar), which this year has exceeded the number of 100 members, created the Aragon Energy Awards with the aim of recognizing the work and career of people, companies and organizations that stand out for its commitment to R&D&I, sustainability or business excellence. Pedro Machín, president of Clenar, highlighted: «In this edition the record of applications received has been broken. All the projects that we have evaluated are a faithful reflection of the dynamism and commitment to innovation and sustainability of a strategic sector for Aragon, both for its capacity to attract very important investments and to generate employment, wealth and a future throughout the territory.
Awarded
SILVER / Teruel Airport – Sustainability and Environment Award
The Teruel International Airport, known as PLATA (Plataforma Aeroportuaria de Teruel), has established itself as a reference center in circular economy for the aeronautical sector, offering innovative solutions for the end of useful life of the materials that make up aircraft and therefore continuous commitment to R&D. In addition, it has always been aware of the environment since its opening to air traffic in 2013. That is why it has always shown great respect for it by implementing actions related to the control and responsible consumption of natural resources. , the minimization of environmental impact or the promotion of clean technologies, among many other measures. Teruel Airport is the largest aeronautical maintenance, parking, recycling and innovation center in Europe, with more than 700 people working with an area of 5.5 million m2.
Chemik Group – Renewable Energy Award
Chemik has patented a piece of equipment that allows us to solve a common problem in photovoltaic parks: the blocking of the inverters when the strings (set of photovoltaic panels that are connected in series) exceed the optimal voltage. Thanks to their new product ST+ (String+) they have managed to solve this problem in solar projects that are already in operation, but they can also help optimize newly built photovoltaic plants with savings of more than 4% of Capex, managing to increase energy generation .
Logistics Group Careers – Sustainable Mobility Award
The evolution of Carreras Grupo Logístico’s comprehensive sustainability project has led the company – given the relevance of vehicles in its business models – to introduce new fuels that allow them to reduce their carbon footprint, as well as to work on the generation and energy storage. They are developing a pilot R&D project with which, through the inertia of the vehicle, the energy generated is stored and later used to generate cold for the transport of frozen foods. In addition, the group continues to make progress in the implementation of renewables, energy efficiency and in training its drivers in efficiency and ‘green’ thinking, among other measures.
Hiberus – Decarbonization Award
Hiberus has generated a Spinebone Xofia platform, together with its partner Xofia World, which integrates a hashgraph (evolution of blockchain in terms of efficiency)which allows companies to transparently manage their carbon footprint mitigation processes, especially designed for the mitigation of residual emissions that are difficult to control and calculate. Thanks to this platform, any company can mitigate individual or last mile actions, offsetting fractions of CO2 in kilos or even grams. For the first time, a verifiable connection is established between individual polluting actions with their respective mitigation action. The managed carbon credits are divided (tokenize) to allow microtransactions to mitigate the carbon footprint, even involving, if desired, the payment to final consumers.
Endef – Energy Communication Award
The ‘Participa Energía’ project was born from the collaboration between Endef, Optimener and Inspira Facilitation to promote and disseminate energy communities in rural areas of Aragon and Guadalajara, which posed a great challenge at a communicative level given the multiple profiles and territorial dispersion of their target audiences. To reach the greatest number of people and organizations, Participa Energía activated a multi-channel communication strategy managed through several social networks, its own website, email marketing campaigns, off-line materials, in-person events, press releases or customer service. by WhatsApp, among other actions.
Institute of Nanoscience and Materials of Aragon (INMA) – Innovation Award
The Nanostructured Films and Particles Research Group of the Institute of Nanoscience and Materials of Aragon (INMA) – a joint institute between the University of Zaragoza and the CSIC – is responsible for the Boniface project which, in collaboration with Gres Aragón of the SAMCA Group, develops technology Innovative and accessible photovoltaics integrated into construction materials. Boniface seeks to revitalize and revolutionize the sector through the development of halogenated perovskite photovoltaic cells integrated into construction materials, specifically in porcelain stoneware used as a substrate. This approach not only promises technological advances in the field of solar energy, but also offers a unique opportunity to revitalize and diversify the national ceramic industry.
Technological Institute of Aragon (ITA) – Innovation Award
The LIFE Multi-AD project, in which the ITA has participated with partners from Spain, France and Romania, has allowed the design of an anaerobic reactor for the treatment of wastewater in agri-food SMEs. The equipment has been scaled and designed through digital twin modeling and simulation techniques. And its demonstration has been achieved on an industrial scale. This technology is economically affordable for SMEs and allows them to treat their wastewater effectively, while producing renewable energy through biogas, contributing to saving natural resources and reducing CO2 emissions. The project has been funded by the LIFE program of the European Commission and has been awarded by the UN Global Compact.
Zoilo Ríos Group – Business Career Award
With almost 100 years of history and more than 160 employees, the Zoilo Ríos Group is an Aragonese company that provides energy and complementary services for mobility that currently manages a network of 18 service stations. The activity of the company, a pioneer in offering sustainable solutions based on electricity, green hydrogen, renewable fuels or biomethane, has been key to launching the first regular line of renewable hydrogen buses in Aragon, which are supplied in the El Cisne service station and cover the route between Zaragoza and its airport.
