The driver, who tested negative for drugs and alcohol, rejects that he was distracted by his cell phone
The driver explained that while he was traveling on the aforementioned highway, another vehicle overtook him in the left lane and he looked in the rearview mirror. At that moment he noticed, according to his version, a “strong blow” not knowing what had happened. Given these events, the driver reported that he passed through the area again and that it was at that moment when he realized what had happened, calling 112. That alert to the Emergency Department, he specified, was done with voice control since, according to his version, he had his cell phone in his pocket and did not use it at any time. He stressed, finally, that he was very sorry for what happened and that he would like not to be immersed in this case.
The statement of this motorist is based on the complaints presented by lawyers Pedro López Graña and Raquel García on behalf of the victims' relatives. In the case of López Graña, his letter is directed against the driver, the owner of the vehicle and the insurer and places emphasis on the “lack of attention while driving.” This part highlights that there were no signs of braking in the area and maintains that the lighting and road conditions that afternoon were optimal.
