In the past few days we have told you about a case of fire that hit a Tesla Model Y in Canada: after a few waves of smoke the US electric SUV was engulfed in flames, with the driver luckily managing to escape despite being trapped inside his car for the first few seconds. A case on which the NHTSA we want to see clearly: the government body that deals with safety on US roads has in fact contacted Tesla to request further information regarding what happened.
As Carscoops recalled, under normal circumstances Tesla’s doors are opened using a electronic button near the top of the handle, but when the electrical system stops working, the aforementioned button is no longer operational. For this reason, the US manufacturer has decided to install a extra manual release system for use in the event of an accident or other emergency situations, such as that experienced by the Canadian driver. However, this system is not always easy to find or operate: some even evaluate it as a design flaw. The Vancouver case is emblematic: at the first signs of a fire danger, the driver of the Model Y managed to get out of the car unharmed, but admitted to having struggled and not a little to leave the car before the fire took over.
