The Fifa Congress that took place this Friday in Bangkok (Thailand) had a very tense moment for political reasons that could have consequences on the part of the entity that manages world football.
During the contest there was a strong confrontation between the presidents of the federations of Israel and Palestine that generated a radical decision on the part of the president of Fifa, the Swiss Gianni Infantino.
The president of the Palestinian Football Federation, Jibril Rajoub, called for a vote on the “immediate suspension” of Israel and disqualification of its representatives. Rajoub described them as “complicit” in the war that hits Gaza.

For his part, the president of the Federation of Israel, Moshe Zoaretz, recalled the reason that, according to him, revived the conflict: on October 7, the terrorist group Hamas carried out an attack against the south of Israeli territory, which left more of 1,200 dead and hundreds kidnapped.

“Palestine is a full member of Fifa, like any of the other 210 members, with exactly the same rights and exactly the same obligations as any other country,” Infantino said.

Federations such as Algeria, Iraq, Jordan, Syria and Yemen supported Palestine’s proposal to suspend Israel.
“Football must not and must never become a hostage to politics and always remain a vector of peace, a source of hope, a force for good, which unites people instead of dividing them,” Infantino insisted.
“This legal evaluation must take into account the contributions and clai
ms of both member associations. The results of this analysis and the recommendations that will be derived from this analysis will subsequently be sent to the Fifa Council,” he stressed.
