“El Chabelo” is one of the criminals that authorities have identified as being involved in the arson attack on the Casino Royale in Monterrey, where 54 innocent people lost their lives on August 25, 2011.
Faustino Gutiérrez Pérez, Second District Judge of Federal Criminal Proceedings in Matamoros, Tamaulipas, found them fully responsible for the crimes of organized crime and illegal deprivation of liberty in the form of kidnapping. “The convicted persons, who were fully identified as members of a criminal group that, among other criminal activities, was dedicated to kidnapping, are serving their sentences in different federal prisons,” reported the Attorney General’s Office (FGR).
“El Chabelo,” the regional leader of the criminal group, is not the one who has the highest sentence, since according to the Prosecutor’s Office, his punishment was 30 years in prison and a fine of 741,157 pesos solely for organized crime, in the form of crimes against health with administrative, management or supervisory functions.
Hector Pinones Mendoza, Javier Alonso Martinez Morales “El Cabezon” and Jaime Rodriguez Cruz “El Laredo” were sentenced to 60 years in prison and a fine of 719 thousand 358 pesos for organized crime and kidnapping. The same sentence was imposed on Allan or Alan Perez Gamez and Clemente Perales Contreras for the crime of kidnapping. For organized crime, Miguel Angel Barraza Escamilla “Barraza” was sentenced to 22 years and 6 months in prison and a fine of 555 thousand 839 pesos, while Jonathan Jahir Reyna Gutierrez “El Jhony”, Joshua Mejia Garza “El Negro” and Julio Tadeo Berrones Ramirez “El Rayas” were sentenced to 15 years and a fine of 370 thousand 578 pesos.
