Television review The stunning La La Land proves that the musical is still in full force – the film breathes fresh life into the nuances of the genre and does not get stuck in clichés

The birth of La La Land was a long and painful process, but fortunately it was not handed over by director Damien Chazelle.

At dumbbells painful pianist Sebastian (Ryan Gosling) would like to play jazz at their own club. Mia (who works as a waitress and runs in humiliating auditions) (Emma Stone) might be able to write your own presentation. Hopeful artists look for their dreams and fall in love in Los Angeles.

If the genre of the musical was considered breathtaking, so Damien Chazellen (b. 1985) La La Land scrapped the perception in one fell swoop. The heart-melting work raged Oscars and Golden Globes and hundreds of other awards.

Like countless top musicals, too La La Land is an infamous romance, a depiction of the contradictions of dreams and reality, and a technically glorious display of the escapist enchantment of music and movement.

Movie blows fresh life into the nuances of the genre without getting stuck in clichés. Rhythm and mood, magical transitions between real and musical reality were realized with the sure touch of a skilled narrator.

Filming was done in more than 70 environments in Los Angeles, and the encounters at the beginning and end of the film are led by a traffic jam typical of the city.

Admired by Chazelle Jacques Demy painted residential houses in pastel colors for his musicals Umbrellas of Cherbourg and Rochefort girls.

La La Land brings the same palette to clothing and interiors, but the color eye of its creators extends to other shades and cinematic references. Numerous accessories and shoe changes also reflect people, feelings and events.

La La Landin birth was a long and painful process. The producers and funders did not believe in a musical whose songs would be new and not already familiar favorites, and whose frame plot would not curve towards the most conventional happy end.

Chazelle trusted her friend and partner Justin Hurwitzin as a melody: music would be written for the characters in the story.

The film plan got a decisive headwind behind it when Whiplash (2014), Chazelle’s grueling depiction of a young jazz drummer as a victim of a sadistic cruel teacher musician, proved to be a hit.

For some parts La La Land opens as a refund Whiplashin for harsh feelings: dreams can die, but they are not saved.
