American comedian Dave Chappelle will continue on Netflix to host a comedy show, he says Hollywood Reporter. The streaming service announced that Chappelle will be making four new shows this spring, all featuring some stand-up comedy veteran as a guest.

Chappelle sparked a debate in October with his program The Closer, which addressed, inter alia, transgenderism. Some of Netflix’s employees found Chappelle’s jokes inappropriate, and some Chappelle fans also described the comedian as transphobic.

Netflixin managing director Ted Sarandos regretted what had happened later and admitted that he did not understand that some of his employees could be offended by Chappelle’s speeches.

However, Sarandos also defended Chappelle’s right to artistic freedom.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Sarandos commented that it was “one of the times Netflix has something not to like”.

For gender minorities among the American comedians belonging to the Chappelle, opinions were divided. Many showed support, some of his speeches instead had offended.

Dave Chappelle’s new one Chappelle’s Home Team in the first episodes of the series are Earthquake and Donnell Rawlingswho began their careers as stand-up comedians in the early 1990s.
