(Reuters) – Telegram founder and chief executive Pavel Durov apologized on Friday to the Federal Supreme Court (STF) for the company’s lack of response to a court decision, after STF Minister Alexandre de Moraes ruled application suspension.
According to Durov, the STF tried to contact Telegram via an “old general email address”, which led to a lack of response. The request would now have been answered, he said.
“On behalf of the team, I apologize to the Brazilian Supreme Court for our negligence,” said Durov, who asked the STF to postpone the implementation of the app suspension by a few days.
Earlier, Minister Alexandre de Moraes ordered the full suspension of Telegram in Brazil, to be implemented within 24 hours, at the request of the Federal Police.
In his order, the minister stated that the decision is based on the app’s failure to comply with the determination to block and demonetize accounts linked to Bolsonarista blogger Allan dos Santos, considered a fugitive from justice in the investigation that investigates digital militias and news production. false.
