Investment in Artificial Intelligence by large ‘tech’ companies worldwide exceeds that of Covid vaccines, and focuses on building data centers and nuclear power plants due to their high energy consumption. This is one of the conclusions drawn in the first edition of ‘Meet AI: Artificial Intelligence, the future’ organized by the Galician Business Circle and which was attended by 300 people – 100 in its auditorium – and more than 200 connected online.
At this meeting, in collaboration with Abanca and R MasOrange and which included technology experts and business leaders in various sectors, theThe bases for generating opportunities and successfully implementing AI as a fundamental piece of the Galician business community.
The president of the Circle, María Borrás, highlighted that AI is revolutionizing the way things are operated and decided. What’s more, providing data from the report’ Use of AI and big data in Spanish companies’ from the Ministry of Economic Affairs, it is estimated that 75% of companies in the EU will have adopted cloud computing and big data services by 2030.
Therefore, Borrás believes that “AI” becomes a essential tool and also in a job opportunity” because most of the most in-demand positions are related to these technological environments.
From Abanca Analytics &RTechthe director of Data, Jorge García Romarís, analyzed in his presentation ‘Extending the use of AI in the company’, all the keys to incorporating it successfully and drew an international panorama where investments “never had this precedent”, even surpassing Covid vaccines.
Billionaire investment
In this way, it is estimated at 400 billion dollars the investment generated for the big five tech in AI, to build data centers and even nuclear power plants to power them due to the large amount of energy they consume. The expert pointed out that more than 80% of the projects Businesses with AI fail, because most are limited to a first scenario in which there is still no progress in terms of data.
For this reason, García sees it as “fundamental” to incorporate it as part of the business because “it will become core”, and points out as key work with data“because without them it does not work”, define its architecture, develop a model correctly and automate, always remembering that “it is the human being who improves, not the AI”, he highlighted.
For his part, Alberto Díaz, from R MasOrange, highlighted the exchange processes with clients and services, in Canon the classification of data and documents, in Merchant Union, simulations and predictions through a “digital twin” and in Hermasa, Product optimization processes in the canning industry.
In the Panel future trendsamong others, Amparo Alonso, professor of Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence at the UDC, spoke, who recounted the main fields of work in her department, from advancing the development of the AI-ethics binomial, biases, ensuring that systems acquire continuous learning without the need for training and the green algorithmsthat is, optimize the environment to consume less data and energy.
They all agreed on the importance of data, since “you cannot talk about AI without a reliable and secure data environment,” they stated. Lastly, they addressed the myths and realities of AI by Raquel Maquieira, from Embermind Technologies, Miguel Ouro from NTT Data and Alberto Bugarín, professor of Computer Science and Intelligence. All the speakers agreed that “in all industrial revolutions there was fear of change” and that it is necessary to know how to integrate artificial intelligence and take advantage of it.
