Apple Music recently introduced a new game to its streaming platform to mark the countdown to the release of The Tortured Poets Department, the eleventh album of the artist's career which will be released next Friday worldwide. The game consists of searching for one word a day within the texts of the five new playlists created for the occasion. The entire message will be revealed on April 18, with Swift actively participating: each of the playlists, in fact, is introduced by a short vocal from her.
On Saturday, Swift's marketing team, known as Taylor Nation, published a post tagging Apple Music. In Taylor Nation's story, a glitch effect appeared that directed Apple Music users to the song “Glitch,” where six capital letters hidden in the lyrics revealed the secret word. This was just the first of the daily riddles that will count down to Friday: a way to keep fans busy waiting, Swift style. In fact, the artist has always been a great fan of enigmas and rebuses, which often precede official announcements by months.
It's not the first time Apple and Swift have collaborated, either. For the album launch Midnights in 2022, Apple Music worked with the singer-songwriter to curate three playlists: “Quill Pen Songs,” “Fountain Pen Songs,” and “Glitter Pen Songs.” Ahead of the release of The Tortured Poets DepartmentSwift created five playlists associated with the “five stages of heartbreak,” once again demonstrating her unique and innovative approach to communicating with fans outside of her music.
