Carlos Tavares prepares to meet metalworkers’ unions. The appointment is for today’s afternoon, 5pm in Turin: it will be an opportunity for the CEO of Stellantis to discuss the future of the production plant in Turin together with the trade unions. Mirafioriabout to become the future home of the Fiat 500. And not just the electric one, which has been produced locally for more than three years: the entire range of the iconic city car will come off the production lines of the Piedmont site, including the hybrid version.
Tavares meets the unions
There is talk of next year or at most the following year to see the new hybrid Fiat 500 make its production debut at Mirafiori. Stellantis’ intention is to arrive at assembling approx 200,000 Fiat 500s on site. In this sense, a further boost is expected from the totally electric version of the 500, which is why Stellantis hopes for a positive effect of the new incentives to increase its production already now (Tavares had spoken of a plus of 20,000 units thanks to the new state subsidies).
Fiat 500 in Mirafiori, but not only that
Not only Fiat and not only Mirafiori, above all at the center of the discussion between the Portuguese manager and the trade unions. As today’s edition of Repubblica points out, there will also be a debate on Cassino just on the eve of the meeting at the Ministry of Business: the fourth model to accompany the new Giulia, Stelvio and Grecale is missing. A look also at the south: a Melfi the unions want to know who will replace Opel, which has disappeared from the programmes, and will join the two DSs, the Lancia and the Jeep, while Pomigliano the future of the plant after 2027 is on the table.
