The year 2023 will begin with a green electricity tariff flag. This means that in the 1st month of the year there will be no extra charge on the electricity bill. The information was released by Aneel (National Electric Energy Agency) this Friday (30.Dec.2022).
The green flag is the result of the good volumes of the hydroelectric reservoirs, the main source of energy generation in the country. This means that the country will not need to activate thermoelectric plants, which are more expensive, to be able to generate energy for consumers.
“We have been working to guarantee increasingly fair energy tariffs, which includes continuous improvements in the flag methodology and structural cost reductions, such as the one we approved yesterday [29.dez.]”, said Sandoval Feitosa, general director of the agency, in a statement, referring to the 34.5% reduction in the cost of energy generated by the Itaipu plant.
TARIFF FLAGS
In June, Aneel approved the readjustment of tariff flags. The increase was 59.5% for the yellow flag, 63.7% for the red flag level 1 and 3.2% for the red flag level 2. The new values are valid for the period from July 2022 to June 2023.
Here are the approved values:
- Yellow – BRL 2.99 for every 100 KWh;
- red landing 1 – BRL 6.50 for every 100 KWh;
- red landing two – BRL 9.79 for every 100 KWh.
