Plaion and Nightdive announce the release of SystemShock on consoleset for today, May 21, 2024, as the launch trailer official visible below for this great video game classic that returns in a reworked version.
The award-winning remake of System Shock, based on the iconic 1994 sci-fi action, is now available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series.
It is a technically modern but also extraordinarily faithful reconstruction of the classic science fiction game by Looking Glass, considered somewhat of the initiator of “immersive sims”.
The remake was created by the specialists at Nightdive Studios and is another highly successful adaptation by the team, which once again stands out for a balanced mix between modernist thrusts and absolute fidelity to the original classic, which is not easy to achieve with this balancing.
A really well done remake
To learn more about the title in question, which has already been released for a few months on PC, we refer you to our review of System Shock on Windows, with a further adaptation in the console version which is decidedly successful in this case too.
In particular, the transition from the mouse and keyboard control system to the console controller is particularly natural and System Shock is therefore an extremely enjoyable title also on PlayStation and Xbox.
The remake of System Shock combines the gameplay of the original title with completely new HD graphics, updated controls, a renewed interface and new sounds and music, also deriving from the close contact between Nightdive Studios and many members of the original System Shock team, including including Terri Brosius, the original voice of one of the most iconic villains in the game: SHODAN.
“For the first time, the incredible world of System Shock is available to console players,” said Stephen Kick, CEO of Nightdive Studios. “We are truly excited to introduce our take on this pioneering video game to a whole new audience.”
The remake of System Shock presents a new technical look that goes up to 4K and 60 fps on major consoles, as well as various improvements including a revised ending, an optional female hacker protagonist, a waypoint system for the easy difficulty mode of missions, improved enemy encounters (including new attacks and behaviors), and game balance updated.
