Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, in a phone call, discussed with Iraqi Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa al-Sudani bilateral relations and a number of Arab and international issues.
The call covered common files, including strengthening border security and efforts to consolidate it, and cooperation in combating terrorism in the interest of the two countries and the peoples of the entire region, according to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported yesterday.
According to the agency, the call discussed ways to enhance cooperation between the two countries in all fields, especially economic ones, in a way that benefits the peoples of both countries.
The phone call comes about a year after a visit by the Sudanese to Syria, during which he discussed security, economic, and water files.
The two countries share a 600-kilometre border in areas that are mostly desert, the security file of which constitutes a fundamental issue between them, especially with regard to the activity of the terrorist organization ISIS.
