It seems like every day we hear a new rumor about the successor to the nintendo switch. From its specifications, to price, and to the release date. However, it was not until a few hours ago that a report revealed one of the most important sections, since now we know what the screen size of this new console will be.
According to a new report by Bloomberg, which points to Hiroshi Hayase, an Omdia analyst specializing in the screen market, as the main source, the successor to the Switch will have an eight-inch LCD screen. In comparison, the traditional model of the current Nintendo Switch is 6.2 inches, while the OLED version offers us seven inches. Along with this, it has been mentioned that this long-awaited piece of hardware would be available at the end of 2024.
Although the size has excited more than one person, The revelation that it is an LCD screen has disappointed more than one fan. As always, Nintendo has not shared official information about this report or its new console. However, it is very likely that the choice of an LCD screen instead of OLED is to avoid a high production cost. Likewise, the possibility of seeing an OLED model in the future is not ruled out,
Although a lot of information has already been released about the successor to the Switch, there is one section that remains a mystery, and that is that at the moment it is unknown how backwards compatibility will work. Some have pointed out that this console will continue to use cartridges, so it will be enough to just put titles from the current hardware in the new one. However, some have pointed out that backward compatibility will be digital, and the My Nintendo Account will be a very important factor. In this regard, this is what Doug Bowser, president of Nintendo of America, commented on the matter:
“Our goal is to minimize the decline typically seen in the final year of one cycle and the beginning of another. “I can't speak to the possible features of a new platform, but the Nintendo Account is a solid foundation to have that communication as we make the transition.”
With this, It has been mentioned that the Switch 2 will be a console with a power similar to the capabilities of the PlayStation 4something that may sound like something inferior, especially compared to the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, but it is more than enough for Nintendo, and this also opens the doors to many more ports of better quality.
Although Nintendo has remained silent, multiple reports assure that this new console will be announced during the first half of 2024, and will reach our hands in the second half of the year. We can only wait for the Japanese company to share official information so that all the rumors and reports that we have seen in recent months come to an end. On related topics, these would be the specifications of the Switch 2. Likewise, the developers are already working on the new console.
Editor's Note:
While it is disappointing that there is no talk of an OLED screen, especially considering that this model of the Switch has sold quite well, the idea of having a much larger screen is something extremely attractive, although it is probably something that will compromise the portability of this piece of hardware.
