More than a month after the elections, an agreement on the government has been reached in Sweden. The parliament will vote on Monday whether Ulf Kristersson, the chairman of the moderate coalition, will become the next prime minister.
Stockholm
in Sweden an agreement has been reached on the country’s next government, said the chairman of the moderate coalition Ulf Kristersson at a news conference on Friday.
The Christian Democrats and the Liberal Party sit in the government led by the moderate coalition. The Sweden Democrats, who have become the second largest party in Sweden, do not get into the government, but the government has the support of the Sweden Democrats.
“We are ready,” Kristersson said in the press room of the Swedish Diet alongside the Swedish Democrats Jimmie Åkessonof the Christian Democrats Ebba Busch and the Liberal Party Johan Pehrson.
According to Kristersson, Sweden is now facing many problems.
“There are many simultaneous crises in Sweden that need to be solved,” he said and listed: Gang crime, integration, energy policy and rising prices, queues for treatment.
“Furthermore, we are living in the most dangerous time in Sweden since the Second World War. There is a war in Ukraine, the rebuilding of the defense forces is underway and the NATO membership process is in progress,” Kristersson said, adding that fixing these problems will take time.
Kristersson also stated that the parties are aware that a large part of Swedes did not vote for them.
“We respect the fact that there is a lot of concern in our country. War, economy and the tough rhetoric of politics. We understand that. We want to gather, not divide. We want to cooperate with other parties and we respect the opinions of others.”
Later on Friday, Kristersson will present his government options to the Speaker of the Diet For Andreas Norlén. If the Speaker considers that it is possible to form a government, he will nominate Prime Minister Kristersson next.
The National Assembly will vote on the Prime Minister on Monday.
