An SUV spontaneously caught fire in the driveway of a home in Bethesda, Maryland, last week. Fortunately no one was injured, but the accident could have had very serious consequences if the 2015 Nissan Murano had been parked inside the home garage. The owner and his family say they are lucky to be alive.
Surveillance cameras captured the moments when smoke began to come out of the car from the bonnet and then flames. The video also shows the response of Montgomery County Fire and EMS. The owner told local media that the fire caused the airbags to explode, waking them, their five-year-old twins and their 7-year-old son.
Following the accident, the Japanese automaker recalled a portion of vehicles registered between 2015 and 2019 due to the risk of leaks that could cause electrical problems and, in rare cases, a fire.
