Almost all of us, when we buy some earphones let's choose in a more or less automatic way devices equipped with active noise cancellation or ANC (active noise cancelling), capable of providing us with clear sound, cleansed of all surrounding noise.
However, there are cases in which this type of functionality is not only not very useful, but would also be useful avoid as in the case of whom does outdoor activities perhaps finding themselves in traffic or more generally needs to always keep your ears free to hear the surrounding sound.
Precisely to overcome this need, the bone conduction headphones which, although appearing as something extremely revolutionary, are based on a principle now widely tested and of which we find the first documentation already in the 1920s.
If you've never heard of it, it's about earphones that are apparently the same as all the others but without the typical rubber to insert into the ear: in fact in these cases just place them near your ears so that the sound arrives clearly, propagated using the bones of the skull and the external auditory ducts.
To briefly complete the historical notes, it must be said that bone conduction technology dates back to the 1970s when Japan was looking for an instrument capable of helping people suffering from hearing problems; the current devices were created approximately twenty years ago, again in the land of the Rising Sun.
But, after this long introduction, it's time to move on to examining the Suunto Sonice Lime and discover them together,
Unboxing and contents of Suunto Sonic Lime
As the last part of the name suggests, ours Suunto Sonic they are distinguished by color Limewhich is a bright yellow that recalls the familiar citrus fruit.
And it is their image that stands out on the packaging which, as usual Suunto, is composed of a box and outer box; in the external part, lighter, beyond the photo we also find the summary of the product characteristics, while the internal one without particular decorations, serves to protect our headphones.
Once we open the package, we immediately find ourselves in front of the earphones in all their brilliance: once we hold them in our hands we can immediately notice how thanks to their composition in silicone and titanium alloy they are very lightjust 31 grams.
Immediately below we find the classic manuals and information sheets for quick start, plus a slot in which the magnetic charging cable and a practical one fabric bag in which to store the headphones when we are not using them.
As already mentioned, the Suunto Sonic they are very light and this benefits ergonomics, which is essential in these cases. In fact, it will be enough to place them on the ears in correspondence with the arches to quickly find the most comfortable position for our needs.
The silicone composition makes the headphones certified IP55, which means resistant to dust, sweat and direct water jets, thanks also to the almost total absence of audio holes. As can be easily seen, Suunto It has arranged 3 buttons on the headphones: a multifunction button and two small buttons with which you can turn the headphones on and off and adjust their volume.
Once turned on, Bluetooth pairing is simple and immediate as with any other device and the headphones are immediately usable.
Performance and apps
As mentioned, once the Suunto Sonic they are ready for use and in a few moments we will be able to reproduce our contents. The sound that arrives is powerful and crystal clear, with great job on the bass and on sound dispersion, which is very minimal despite the open-ear design.
Obviously, given the main feature of the headphones, we must take this into account that playback will bring with it a constant vibration, more or less important depending on the power of the content being listened to (a podcast will vibrate less than an AC/DC song). It is something that can be annoying at first, but to which you get used in a short time to the point where it almost becomes pleasant, and moreover it is the way sound propagatesit couldn't be otherwise.
The commands, which are given via the multifunction button, are a bit laborious, but simple to learn: with one touch we can answer a call, close it and pause or resume a song, with two touches we go to the next song and with three we return back to the previous one. Luckily the multifunction button it's big enough to find by heart and its use is convenient.
A great advantage of these headphones lies in their autonomy: with a full charge you can reach them easily (and overcome) 10 hours of playback of various types of content. Charging is very fast, to the point that with 10 minutes of charging we can get around 3 hours of operation and a full charge can be reached in 60 minutes.
The only element we can't control directly from the headphones is the playback mode: despite having an open-ear design, Suunto has provided a normal and an external modewhich help us receive sound clearly and loudly even when immersed in situations of extreme surrounding confusion.
The app is the same with which you can control other devices Suunto and does not include a particularly in-depth section: in addition to the mode selector, in fact we only have the possibility of consulting the manuals and connect a double device. In fact, it is possible to pair the same headphones with two Bluetooth devices simultaneously, whether to exchange music during a workout as a couple or to use a device for music and a smartphone for calls, everything happens in a smooth and hassle-free manner. problems.
