The intentions of social groups are clear: move towards a massive non-payment of rents. “If politicians and governments do not get to work to lower incomes, we are going to do it with a rent strike in the medium term,” have threatened tenant unions and pro-housing activists, who took to the streets in manifestation last October 13.
The Madrid Tenants Union has already warned that it is preparing “very intensely” for this disobedience action with the “formation of territorial committees” and working groups. Would you join a rent strike? You can vote below.
Activists do not work with defined deadlines, but they call for collective organization so that the initiative has strength. “The call to strike represents right now the only possible solution to the housing problem in our country. The institutional alternative has failed, the politicians have no will to resolve the conflict,” denounced the Tenants Union from Madrid.
“The strike is a sign of protest against landlords and speculators who profit every month from our efforts and our work,” insists the group, which is debating the terms of the proposal.
